This work is dynamic and impactful. The body shapes move the eye around the work and draw focus on the figures. The figures are in good relative positions to each other, and is it obvious they are the same character. His colored hair gives him an individual personality. The character on the bed is real, but the one near the window’s transparency leads us to believe we should not be seeing the intimate thought in his head. We have been invited into the world of the mind. And while he and the viewer is trapped in the small and overbearing yellow room which the character sits, his mind is somewhere in regret. The black curtains and the black bed spread reinforce that there is no way out of the space.
Some things that could make this better is if the curtains were all black, the heater was photoshopped out (underneath the window) and the bedspread were all black. These decorations are distracting from the piece. More dramatic lighting could have been used over the "alive" figure and a dampening of the surroundings could create even a more somber mood. Less dramatic lighting is needed for the imagined figure, (you can see the light hitting his face) a more “defused look” would make a stronger statement for ‘imagined”.
